John Joseph Volan is the son of John Volan (1881-1947) and Barbara Frańczak (1889-1957). He was born on August 10, 1919 in Crescent, Ohio and had siblings Steve (1909-1928), Stanislaw (bonr 1910), Bert Alexander (1912-1965). Edward John (1913-1985), Rhudolph (1914-1980), Theodore Paul (1916-1982), Michael (1921-1922), and Joseph Volan (1923-1923). He enlisted into the US Army on November 12, 1941 . He married Mary Dorothy Kinney (1913-1988) on September 8, 1950.
