John Walter Soss was white. He was born on May 27, 1926 to parents Adam Soss and Mary Magonski. His mother Mary was born on December 18, 1895 in Hungary and immigrated to the US arriving in 1907. She passed away on June 25, 1967 in Trenton, Mercer, New Jersey. His father Adam was born on December 16, 1883 in Romania and immigrated to the US arriving in 1908. He passed away on February 24, 1962 in Swatara, Lebanon, Pennsylvania.

He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, Holy Cross Post 417, Holy Name Society of Holy Cross Church and the Deutzville Civic Association.

John Soss enlisted into the US Army on August 28, 1944 in Newark New Jersey with Military serial#: 42186703. He was a private and served in the Army from August 28, 1944 until his discharge on July 8, 1946. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

John was the manager of Quinn's Bar on Cass Street. He also was a manager of Nate's Pub softball team of the Mercer County League from 1979-1980). From 1947 to 1950, he was a pitcher in the Triple A League, farm league for the former Philadelphia Athletics and the former New York Giants. He pitched in the Industrial League in Mercer County from 1951 to 1956.

John W. Soss, 55, manager of Quinn's Bar on Cass Street and active in area baseball, was stricken with a heart attack at his home Sunday and pronounced dead on arrival in St. Francis Medical Center. Mr. Soss, of Lalor Street, was a manager of Nate's Pub softball team of the Mercer County League for the past two years. From 1947 to 1950, he was a pitcher in the Triple A League, farm league for the former Philadelphia Athletics and the former New York Giants.He pitched in the Industrial League in Mercer County from 1951 to 1956. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, Holy Cross Post 417, Holy Name Society of Holy Cross Church and the Deutzville Civic Association. He was a lifelong Trenton resident and an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife Caroline A. Potocki Soss; a son, Ptl. John T. Soss of the Ewing Township Police Department; two daughters, Katherine and Karen Soss, both at home; a brother, Stephen Soss of Mount Gretna, PA; three sisters, Mrs. Katherine Chianese of Alameda, CA, Mrs. Elizabeth Hubscher and Mrs. Priscilla Carter, both of Trenton, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 8 a.m. from the Winowicz Funeral Home, Adeline and Beatty Streets. Mass of Christan Burial will be celebrated in Holy Cross Church at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The Holy Name Society will recite the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Holy Cross Catholic War Veterans Post 417 will conduct services Tuesday at 8 p.m. Trenton (NJ) Evening Times Tuesday, June 30, 1981, p.
