John Spotten is the son of Dr. Albert Alwei Oliver Spotten (1886-1959) and Hannah "Anna" Williams (1889-1952). He was born on March 24, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois and had siblings Albert Oliver (1908-1988), Ethel Hannah (1910-1991), Edna May (1912-1983), George Daniel (1914-1978), Margaret Bernice (1916-1959), Jane (born 1918), Harriett (1922-1922), Delores Harriett (1923-2002), William Henry (1926-1981), and Sarah Lee Spotten (1927-1996). He married Adeline Anna Sevcik (1917-1999) and they had multiple children together. John enlisted into the Quartermaster Corps on October 27, 1945 in Shelbyville Indiana and ranked as a Sergeant. He was part of the "7801 STA. COMPL. UNIT QMC" unit. John was discharged from the Army Air Force on October 5, 1948.

He was part of the "7801 STA. COMPL. UNIT QMC" unit. John was discharged from the Army Air Force on October 5, 1948.

In 1941, he was employed by the "Rizzo Brothers" in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA. Later in life, he worked as a truck driver for freight lines.
