Louis George Saloom was born on August 4, 1918, in Hine, Syria to George M. Saloom (1878-1943) and Sofia "Sheva" Farrah (born 1895). In 1935, he migrated to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and worked as a self-employed shoe repairman for the rest of his adult life. On October 16, 1940, at the age of 22, Louis registered for the World War II draft in Iowa, and he later enlisted in the military on March 13, 1943, at Camp Dodge Herrold, Iowa. He served during some of the most significant events in World War II, including the Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944 and the subsequent liberation of France. Louis was married to Virginia Elaine Moneypenny (1921-1992), and they had a daughter together. Sadly, Louis Saloom passed away on June 21, 1962, in Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, USA. Despite his passing, his service to his country during World War II will always be remembered and appreciated.

Louis was born and spent the first part of his life in Hine, Syria. He moved with his family to Cedar Rapids, Linn, Iowa in 1935 and he resided there for most of his life.

Louis was a high school graduate completing 4 years.

On October 16, 1940, at the age of 22, Louis George Saloom registered for the draft in Iowa. Louis then enlisted in the military on March 13, 1943, at Camp Dodge Herrold, Iowa. He was assigned military serial number 37665382 and initially had no branch assignment. He was ranked as a Private in the Selectees (Enlisted Men). Louis's terms of enlistment were for the duration of the war or any other emergency, plus an additional six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to the law. This meant that he would serve until the end of the war, and his service could be extended if the President deemed it necessary. His service would have coincided with some of the most significant events in World War II, including the Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944 and the subsequent liberation of France. Louis Saloom was likely part of the millions of brave men and women who served their country during World War II, helping to secure victory over the Axis powers.
