Mae O Arthur's History: 1914 - 2005

Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Mae O.Arthur was the accountant/book keeper,as she was called in those days, at the Freeman Slaughterhouse for several years. My grandfather, Oliver C.Rawley, was the butcher there for several years until his untimely death on June7,1952,at which time my father, Boyd L. Rowley, took that position until the slaugherhouse closed in the early 1960's,since my father had been drawing a paycheck from there since he was 12years old...I tell all this to lead in to how Mae impacted my life later on.After the slaughterhouse closed, Mae started a tax preparer and book keeping business from her home.I failed to say that Mae was married to Roy Arthur until his death before hers.I don't have the date of his death. They had 2 sons, Dale and George "Keith", all of whom are gone now, with Keith being the last to go in 2016.Kieth was a book in himself.Dale moved away at some point.Anyway,Maes' sons did not reflect the type woman she truly was.; Mae Arthur was an extremely tall woman, with a voice soft enough to soothe any crying babe.I never heard her raise her voice to anyone.I know she was a Christian woman, but I never knew what faith. She later started book keeping for my first husband when he took over his fathers' logging business. He would take all his receipts for the week to her home every Friday evening. At first, he wouldn't be gone long, but, he grew to know her, those visits would be about 2 hours on Friday evening and about the same amount of time on Saturday afternoon when he would go pick up his payroll each week. She was a great guidance for him until his untimely death in 1973.Even after his death, Mae continued to be a friend to me.She was a pillar of what I now know to be a Christian woman. She lived her life as God instructed in His Word.Mae has been with her Lord for awhile now but I will never forget her and her sweet advice
