McKinley Webb Photos

Six children play in the yard at Gordon, Boone Co, WV. Far right is the earliest known photo of McKinley Webb, age 6; behind him is his sister, 4-yo Dana Mildred Webb. In 2001, my then 83-year old Aunt Dana had a clear memory of the day this photo was taken, how she was shy and tried to hide behind my dad. She could not recall who the four children on the left were but knew they were "cousins;" nor could she recall why they were so "duded up," in their best clothes. She thought it might have been Easter or a funeral. This was not their regular Sunday church clothing.

Friends, McKinley Webb and Cody Tincher. One of several photos taken at this sitting, believed to be around the time the friends worked at Marfork Mines, WV.

Three friends, Cody Tincher, McKinley (Mac) Webb and Hobert Heddrick. My Aunt Dana believed this was about the time these 3 worked at Marfork Mines and were living in a boarding home near the mine. That lasted 3 weeks, they couldn't afford it, and all decided to move back home to Gordon and commute.

Home on leave in November/December 1941, dad spent hours hiking his beloved West Virginia mountains, fishing and hunting. He was there, visiting his father, Sheriff Crockett Webb, and his siblings and family, when the bombing of Pearl Harbor was announced on the radio. This photo is believed to have been taken at Chief Logan State Park in neighboring Logan County, WV.
