    Merton Temple ROMULUS — Merton C. Temple, 83, well-known Romulus resident, died early Sunday at Geneva General Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Gouverneur. The family requests the courtesy of no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund or a favorite charity. There will be no prior calling hours. Mr. Temple was born in Gouverneur and was a retired mason contractor. He spent his early manhood in Northwest Canada in this trade and was a member of a traveling theshing team in the area, of Davidson, Saskatchewan. He was a World War I veteran, having served with the "Fighting 69th" regiment, and was with Father Duffy in France. He was long active in the Seneca County Democratic Party and was instrumental in the formation of the Seneca County Taxpayers several years ago. Mr. Temple was a life member of the Romulus Fire Department and was a former Boy Scout committeeman. He was a member of the VFW and past commander of the Romulus VFW Post. He served for 18 as the VFW post quartermaster. He was president of the Romulus Veteran's Memorial Association A well-known local raconteur, Mr. Temple was interested in genealogy and history. He received the last mail bag on the last run of the Lehigh Valley Railroad Black Diamond Express through Romulus. He is survived by his wife, Venita Temple; and six children, Mrs. Clarence (Marian) Helms of Wilsboro, Mrs. Edwin (Marilyn) Smith of Romulus, Mrs. James (Joyce) Edwards of Romulus, Mrs. Grover (Sandra) Updike of Tuscon, Ariz., Merton Sayle Temple of Romulus and Sherwin E. Temple of Rochester; 24 grandchildren; four great • grandchildren; and two sisters, Vera King of North Syracuse and Veva Mack of Prospect.
