Ruston, 86, Conde Nast Chairman Published: December 09, 1992 Sign In to E-Mail Print Perry Lounsbery Ruston, a former president and chairman of Conde Nast Publications Inc., died on Sunday at his winter home in Delray Beach, Fla. He was 86 years old. He died of heart failure, his family said. Mr. Ruston, a native of Manhattan, also had a home in Bronxville, NY, then in Sharon, Conn., and finally in Delray Beach, FL. He graduated from Williams College in 1927, when he joined Conde Nast for what became a 48-year career with the publisher of Vogue, House & Garden, Glamour, Mademoiselle and The Bride's Magazine, among others. He was elected a director in 1950 and became publisher of Glamour magazine in 1953. Mr. Ruston was a vice president and general manager from 1957 to 1969, when he became president. He was elected to the additional post of chairman two years later. He retired at the end of 1974. Mr. Ruston also served briefly as president of Street & Smith's Publications Inc. before it was merged into Conde Nast in 1961, He was active in the Magazine Publishers Association as a member of the board of directors and served as M.P.A. treasurer for several years before his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Virginia H. Ruston, and a son, Robert H. Ruston.ADVERTISEMENT BYLooking for more information?
