Musician. He was best known as the bass player for the hard rock band UFO. He began his career as a studio musician. After playing in bands with friends from high school, he created a band with friends Phil Mogg, Andy Parker and Mick Bolton that became the original UFO lineup. After two studio albums with their original guitarist, the band then recruited Michael Schenker from Scorpions. The band later signed on guitarist/keyboardist Paul Raymond. They released many albums and singles and had two UK top 40 hits. Way played with UFO from 1969 until 1982. In 1983, he and former Motorhead guitarist “Fast” Eddie Clarke created the group Fastway. He was unable to get out of a contract he had signed with Chrysalis and left to play bass for Ozzy Osbourne during the Diary of a Madman Tour. In 1992, he rejoined Phil Mogg in UFO and released the High Stakes & Dangerous Men album. When it came time for the 2009 tours for UFO’s album, The Visitor, he was unable to join them due medical conditions and the United States refused him entry into the country due to drug issues. He has not played with UFO since, but has made guest appearances with Michael Schenker and released two albums under the Damage Control banner. With the assistance of professional writer Paul Rees, he released his autobiography in 2017 titled “A Fast Ride Out of Here: Confessions of Rock's Most Dangerous Man.” He formed the Pete Way Band in 2018 and in June 2019, they started a UK tour. He also recorded a guest bass performance on a Warfare song along with Evo and “Fast” Eddie Clarke titled "Misanthropy" which will be released in 2020 on Cherry Red Records. He died at the age of 69, following life-threatening injuries he had sustained in an accident two months earlier. He died just ten weeks after his former UFO bandmate and guitarist Paul Chapman, and one year after keyboardist Paul Raymond.
