Note: Wikipedia states that Rico was born 21 February 1898 in Chicago, Illinois and died August 1985 in New York, New York. Genealogical records show a birth date of 1896 or 1897 and that he died in Los Angeles CA. All of these places and dates are being represented in the hopes that someone with definitive info will step forward. His father was a musician and he was an illustrator and painter - maybe his creative genes are being expressed in the "facts" of his life. Rico's mother's name was Maria Petesch, 1868 - 1948 and his father's name was Salvatore Tomaso, 1866 - 1924. He had 1 brother - Salvatore - and 2 sisters - Elaine and Carla. In the 1900 federal census states that Errico (sic) Tomaso, age 2, was living in Chicago Ward 25, IL with his family. In the household were father Salvatore, age 33, mother Marian (sic), age 31, Hulda Peterson (servant), Charlotte Petesch (mom's sister), Ivan Peterson (man servant), and Salvatore, age 3. Father Salvatore was a musician and had emigrated from Italy 28 years ago. On his WW2 draft card for young men (NY), Rico stated that his next of kin was Helen G Tomaso, he was 44 years old, and self-employed. He also stated that he was born in 1897 while other records indicate that he was born in 1896. Description: 5 ft 10.5 inches, 178 pounds, ruddy skin, brown eyes and black hair.
