Tanzile (Çati) Akkiz 1923 - 2011

Tanzile (Çati) Akkiz was born in 1923 to ŞAHİN ÇATI and HATİCE ÇATI, and had siblings HALİME ZÜLFİKAR, İBRAHİM ÇATI, TAHSİN ÇATI, İDRİS ÇATI, and YAREN ÇATI. She married Muhammed Akkiz, and they were married until Muhammed's death in 1954. She had children Uskumru (Güzel) GİDERİVAR, Cenk Akkiz, Şadi Akkiz, Ragip Akkiz, Sadik Akkiz, Ismet Akkiz, and Abdülhamid Akkiz. Tanzile Akkiz died at age 88 years old in 2011.

In 1923, in the year that Tanzile (Çati) Akkiz was born, Harlem's Cotton Club opened in New York City. Owned by a bootlegger and gangster, it was a 700 seat speakeasy that catered to a "white only" clientele. But most of the entertainers were African-American and featured some of the best entertainers of the time such as Lena Horne, the Nicholas Brothers, Ethel Waters, and Cab Calloway.
