Singer, Dancer, Actress, Author. Known as "The Queen of Rock 'n' Roll." Born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Brownsville, Tennessee and raised in nearby Nutbush, Tina's musical journey began in her early years, eventually leading her to become an internationally acclaimed artist. Tina initially gained fame and recognition as part of the duo Ike & Tina Turner, captivating audiences with their energetic performances and notable hits. Their success as a musical pair, including songs like: "Proud Mary," "River Deep – Mountain High" and "Nutbush City Limits," garnered widespread attention and propelled Tina's career forward. Subsequently, Tina made the decision to embark on a solo career, showcasing her powerful vocals and stage presence. Her solo breakthrough came with the release of the album "Private Dancer" (1984), which featured well-known tracks like: "What's Love Got to Do with It," "Private Dancer" and "Better Be Good to Me." Outside of music, she acted in films such as: "Tommy" (1975) and "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome" (1985). Tina's dynamic performances and distinct musical style solidified her status as an influential artist. Tina's impact extended beyond her musical accomplishments. She became an inspiration to many, particularly through her ability to overcome personal challenges and find strength within herself. Tina's resilience and advocacy for self-worth resonated with individuals around the world, as she used her platform to empower others and encourage personal growth. Her 1986 best-selling autobiography "I, Tina: My Life Story" (co-written with Kurt Loder) was adapted into the biographical film, "What's Love Got to Do with It" (1993), starring Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne. She was inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: first in 1991 as a member of Ike & Tina Turner and in 2021 as a solo artist. Honors include: Hollywood Walk of Fame, St. Louis Walk of Fame, three Grammy Hall of Fame awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2005 Kennedy Center Honors. Tina retired in May 2009 following her 50th Anniversary Tour. She cherished her private life and focused on spending time with loved ones from her home in Switzerland. Tina Turner died on May 24, 2023 at the age of 83 at home in Kusnacht, Switzerland following a long illness.
