Bob spent the Korean War in Kyushu, Japan, quarterbacking the command's football team and pitching for their baseball team. You used to be able to do that as a full-time job in some military outfits in the era leading up to and shortly after WWII. The Army was particularly fond of boxers.

Robert Myron Lindley was a sportswriter for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, primarily covering the Texas Rangers from their move to Arlington, Texas, in 1972 (prior to which they had been the Washington Senators), until his retirement in 1986. He died of stroke while undergoing quintuple bypass surgery in Dallas, Texas, in December 1987.
