Charles Earl Burgess lost both parents at a young age and stayed with his older brother and his family until he reached maturity. He was drafted into WWI and served as an aviator for the Army from 1917-1919. When he returned he worked as a stunt flyer or "wing-walker" primarily in TN and MS. Charles Earl Burgess was born onJuly 8, 1895 in Noblesville, Hamilton, Indiana, USA to parents Joseph Burgess (1858-1909) and Elizabeth "Lizzy" Heaton (1861-1903). He had siblings Claud Heaton Burgess (1882-1949), Nellie Marie Geiger (1885-1961), Orville Johnson Burgess (1887-1961), Harry J. Burgess (1890-1973), and Elmer Alden Burgess (1897-1914).

When Charles returned from the war, he worked as a stunt flyer, "wing-walker",and daredevil aerialist primarily in TN and MS.
Charles was also employed at the Strawboard Corp., in Noblesville, Indiana and later worked at and retired from the Mead Corp where he worked in Nashville, Tenn.
