Was this unusual? I never have seen anything like this - a picture looking like it's a normal family portrait, yet the poor baby is not alive? How sad...

I have seen a book at a library that contained photographs, some taken by a professional photographer, of parents or grandparents holding a child that had died. It seems to have been the thing to do a that time (maybe 1850's.)
