Photo of my Dad, Don (Donald Charles Joseph Byrnes). His mother Nora died 3 days after his birth in 1923 and he was raised by his maternal grandparents Charles and Honorah Williams and their family-at Rhodes, NSW. He was a much loved child and they were a very happy family. How lucky was he!

My brother when he was about this age had long ringlet curls . They thought it was just to precious to cut , his hair was red as well. People kept asking my parents , when are y'all gonna cut that boys hair? My oldest sister got the sheers and did it for them. She was about 4 years old.
That is so sad...to not have the love of your birth mother..even if you are blessed enough to have someone else who loves you. She loved him from Heaven...Amen...
How nice. My mother's mother died when she was 3yo and she was raised by a step mother who was extremely abusive. It makes me happy to read stories like this with seemingly happy endings..
Actually Kristy, I have a friend whose youngest son had such pretty curls that she couldn't bear to get them cut either. Recently, she finally did & donated them to Locks of Love. So it's not just because it was 1929.
