Douglas was baptized in June 1992. He married Christine Antoneo (Shafer) Smith on April 23, 1996, and they were married until Christine's death on December 23, 2015. Douglas Smith has children Lakeshia Dawn (Smith) Sharpe, Joshua Andrew Smith, Nathan Aaron Smith, and Faith Danielle Smith.
