He was married to Eula Mae Brooks, and had children Robert Bailey Walton Sr., Betty Jo Walton, Fred Douglas Walton Jr., and Virginia Mae Walton. Fred Walton died at age 40 years old on August 24, 1941 in Claiborne County, MS, and was buried on August 26, 1941 at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson.
