Herbert Harvey Pinkley
Herbert Harvey Pinkley was born on December 22, 1923 in Monett, Barry, Missouri, USA to parents Earl Ruffus Pinkley (1901-1973) and Gladys Mabel True (1903-1993). He had siblings inlcuding a brother Kenneth Monroe Pinkley (1926-2020). They grew up in Monett, Barry, Missouri, USA and then moved to Winona, Carroll, Arkansas. Herbert's military journey began with his draft and enlistment during World War II. As a young 18-year-old male residing in Eureka Springs, Carroll, Arkansas, he registered for the draft on June 30, 1942. On November 17, 1943, at the age of 19, Herbert enlisted in the Army at Little Rock, Arkansas. Initially, he had no branch assignment, likely because he was part of the "Selectees (Enlisted Men)" component. However, on January 7, 1944, he received a branch assignment, and he became a Private in the Army. Herbert served during World War II and he continued his military service even after World War II ended. On October 25, 1945, Herbert was discharged from the Army. Despite his initial discharge, Herbert reenlisted on December 10, 1947, and served in the Army for a much longer period. He continued to serve his country for over two decades, until February 29, 1968, when he was discharged once again. During this time, he reached the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC). On May 24, 1947 Herbert married Suzanne Mercedes Harper (1929–2010) in Little Rock, Pulaski, Arkansas, USA. Together the couple had children Steven Harper (1948-2003), Etta Ann (1951-1951), Christopher Harvey (1961-1993), John, Holleen, and Mary Pinkley.
