He was in a relationship with Gladys (Brewer) Combs beginning 1953 at Bulan Kentucky in Bulan, Perry County United States and they later separated in 1980. He had children Janice Combs Johnson, Edward Burton Combs, Billy Ray Combs, Nancy Combs, James Wallace Combs, George Dwayne Combs, Sandy Combs, and Irvin Combs. Edward Combs died at age 68 years old on March 20, 1998 in Bulan, Perry County, and was buried in Combs.
