Please look at Sam's leg, it appears to have a piece of wood around the left leg to help him to walk. One of his great grandson's remembers being told of Sam Doyle having a lame leg. Samuel is the father of Samuel Lafayette Doyle, Jr. Samuel "Lath" Lafayette Doyle, Jr. is the father to Sam, Bill, Vi, Maude, Mary, Mandy, Emma, Carnella & Pearl
