My father was placed in St. Mary's Industrial School in the early 1920's along with his brothers after his mother (Mary Tate) suffered brain damage after being struck by a vehicle. His father Edward E. Clemens could not take care of the children. Babe Ruth left St. Mary's Industrial School the day dad was admitted in.
After he left St. Mary's he went with a circus and was looked after by the "king" of the gypsies, called Tiddy Bimbow.....Dad told me he road motorcycles in large "barrels." Upon leaving the circus he was given a large amount of money which his mentor had kept separate from his wages so he could start his life off right when he left. He gave the bulk of this money to "Uncle Mort" who wanted to start a junkyard.
