This is a photo of my Great Aunt Allie (Zelia Almeda Williams). Allie was born in 1887 and died in California in 1974. I always thought this was a beautiful picture.
Is it just me or were women, without make up no doubt, more beautiful way back then. Don't get me wrong. I see beautiful women all the time but she is stunning.
What makes her most beautiful is that even if she realizes that she is, she isn't trying to flaunt it or look like a hussy for the camera. Modesty is always classy.
Is this picture of this lady altered to make her look like she has no flaws, and is she related to the actor Robin Williams. He has a daughter with the same name, but spelled differently.
They wore corsets and padding to change their shape. So yes, they also followed the fads of beauty. I think the clothing and feminine style is what makes them lovely. I've seen some women who were not attractive if you looked at their face but still appeared rather lovely. A person who is coiffed will always appear to be attractive. Jackie O was not a great beauty but her style made her one. People years ago took pride in their appearance. That all changed with the 70's.
Their hair and dress enhanced their beauty. In today's world make-up is a billion dollar industry that tells us we look more beautiful with it on. If only I looked like her. Simply beautiful.
