Carrie Bell Reed Walsh (Mrs Thomas F. Walsh) in 1904. Thomas F. Walsh emigrated from Ireland and through his own efforts created an empire. He discovered one of the largest gold mines in America. He gave his daughter, Evalyn Walsh McLean the Hope Diamond as a wedding present. Carrie Bell Reed Walsh met Thomas when she was a school teacher in Leadville Colorado (she was from Wisconsin). They had two children, one of whom (a son) died in a car crash. Here is Carrie Bell Reed Walsh in all her finery - provided by her husband's discovery of gold. Evalyn (nee Walsh) McLean was the last private owner of the Hope Diamond. Judging by the jewels she has on, the Hope Diamond fit right in with all her other jewelry! Her father Thomas Walsh was an immigrant miner who made a fortune. In 1908, she married Edward Beale McLean, the heir to the Washington Post and Cincinnati Enquirer publishing fortune. She didn't believe in the curse of the Hope Diamond but there were many tragedies associated with her family life. Photo courtesy of the Library of Congress, Harris & Ewing

This is a photograph I recently found. The photo was taken by the "R.R. Haug" photography studio at 2447 Kensington Avenue, Philadelphia, PA. Since it is in Philadelphia, and the majority of my ancestors either were born, immigrated , or moved from up state Pennsylvania, the chances are pretty good that the last name of the woman pictured is either: MURPHY, WALSH, OR YOUNG. Any information would be great, although I know it is pretty slim that anyone will know who she is.

Ground training is done. The men went to Edmonton next to complete air training. My father was a navigator/bombadire, on a Lancaster. I believe these men were training for all aspects of flying.
