    James Kalauao Kanekoa was born to William Hanai Kanekoa (1903 - 1967) and Victoria K. Morinaga (1908 - 1980). His father was born in Hawaii, as was his mother. He had a brother, Frank K., and sisters Rose, Barbara, and Victoria Kanekoa. A World War II veteran, James served as a Private First Class in the United States Air Force. James Kanekoa married Abby with whom he had 2 sons,, then Yvonne Lorraine Fontes (1942 - 2002) and they had one daughter. He then married Donna and they didn't have children.
