    Lester Dale Maddy was born on May 29, 1924 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa, United States to parents Roscoe Thomas Maddy (1901-1974) and Blanche Ann Crandall (1905-1982). He had many siblings inlcuding a brother Howard Thomas Maddy (1922-2010) and a sister Margaret Myrtle Maddy (1929-2005). He grew up in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon and later moved to Ronald, King, Washington, USA in the 1940's. Lester Maddy enlisted in the United States Army on April 19, 1943, during World War II as a Private in the Selectees (Enlisted Men) component. He had worked as a general farmhand before enlisting in the military. He was assigned to the Army on April 26, 1943. During his time in the military, Lester D Maddy was stationed in various locations such as Burma, see Lester Dale Maddy WW11 Photo. He served for nearly three years before being discharged on February 19, 1946. He was discharged as a Private, which was his rank at the time of his enlistment. Lester married Melba Jean Searles (1928–2006) on September 23, 1946 in Foy, King, Washington, USA. The couple had 5 children together including Judith Maddy Bell (1947-2017) and Terry Lee Maddy (1948-1990).
