Obituary: R. Strode Sucide Victim Ruben Strode, 60, 118 West North street, ended his life at his home this morning by firing a shot from a 12-gauge shotgun into his mouth. Strode had been ill health for the past three weeks. He had not been to a physician and his immediate family did not believe that any thing was wrong. This morning about 10 o'clock he complained of a severe headache which had been bothering him several days. His daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Mautino, who was at his home washing, advised him to see a doctor. Ruth Leavitt, housekeeper for the Strode, was also in the house. After complaining of his headache Strode left by the back door. A few minutes later a loud report was heard. Mrs. Mautino and Ruth Leavitt thought the report was from a backfiring automible. Later, missing Mr. Strode, they began a search for him. He was found in the garage at the rear of the home with the shotgun lying beside him. The police and the county coroner were called to the scene. Dr. R. W. Prater, coroner, termed the death as suicide. The body was taken to the Hope funeral home. No arrangements have been made on service and burial He was born July 2, 1888, in Excelsior Springs and spent his entire lifetime in the city. He was employed as a nightman by Ball's Health School. He was married to Cora Anna Strode, who died May 8, 1945. Survivors include three sons, John Herman, Excelsior Springs; Walter Ruben, Englewood, Colo; and Edwin Riley, of the home; and six daughters, Mrs. Allene Boyer, Ravena Gardens; Mrs. Pauline Teegarden, Vibbard; Mrs. Oma Wright, Excelsior Springs; Mrs. Madeline Beccar, Bellford, Ohio; Mrs. Dorothy Mautino, Excelsior Springs; and Violet Bernice Strode of the home.
