Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Robert "Bobby" F Talmadge Keaton was born on February 3rd, 1924, in Los Angeles, California, to comic actor Joseph Frank "Buster" Keaton (1895-1966), best known as "Buster Keaton", who was born in Kansas, and well-known silent film actress and producer Natalie Talmadge (1898-1969), who was born in New York state. Robert had an older brother, James Joseph Buster Keaton Jr (1922-2007). His mother's sisters, Norma and Constance Talmadge, were also well known actresses. Bobby's parents had a troubled marriage, described as "unhappy" and "arranged." They divorced in 1932 after 11 years and two sons. Natalie desired no more children and insisted on separate bedrooms, while Buster struggled with alcoholism. Robert "Bobby" Talmadge was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, serving during World War II. Robert T. Keaton married Esaleta Patricia "Pat" Marie McGough (1916-1991) in 1948 and they had two sons. Unlike the other famous members of his family, the only media appearance Robert made was in 1957 on the 'This is Your Life' television show where he honored his father's life and career. After Bobby's parents' contentious divorce, he and his brother dropped the surname "Keaton" and they thereafter used the surname Talmadge. They didn't have any contact with their father thereafter, except for Bobby's aforementioned appearance on "This is Your Life". Bobby Talmadge died on July 19th, 2009, in Del Mar, California, at the age of 85. He is buried in El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego, San Diego County, California.

The parade was held as a way to promote the opening of the “World’s Largest Store” and its 1 million square feet of retail space in Manhattan’s Herald Square. The parade was 6 miles long and included floats, Macy's employees dressed as clowns, cowboys, and sword-wielding knights, and animals from Central Park Zoo. Santa Claus, of course, brought up the rear - opening the Christmas shopping season for Macy's.
