The family boarded 3rd class to emigrate to the US. At 11:40 PM on April 14, 1912 the ship struck an iceberg. Because of the crewmen giving orders that husbands and older sons were not allowed to board the lifeboats, the family managed to stay together until the end. It was never known where the Goodwin family was during the final moment. Some claimed they remained in their cabin during the sinking.

The family was one of the English speaking 3rd class family on the Titanic. Not just men were not allowed to board lifeboats-even older boys between 10-17 were not allowed.
