Lillian Ruth Phillips, nee Metzner, was born on April 26, 1926, to Martin M. and Catherine M. Metzner ( nee Wagner). Her grandparents were Friedrich Metzner and Marie ( nee Sauer), who were eventually known as Fred and Mary, and Heinrich ( Henry) Wagner and Katherine Wagner, nee Roth. Fred and Mary Metzner had a large family that included Lillian's father, Martin, as well as Martin's siblings Ludwig, Adolph ( or Arthur, as he may have also been called), Alice, Pauline and Howard. Lillian was born to Martin M. and Catherine Metzner, along with her triplet siblings, Robert and a sibling who died at the time of birth or shortly thereafter. She always used to say she was born on the kitchen table in her home. Lillian loved the fine arts, especially singing and music and loved to sew and do handcrafts such as embroidery and crochet. She was a devoted wife and she said she'd had 11 children. At the time of her death, Lillian was at an Octoberfest celebration at her church. She died amidst people she loved, doing what she loved. She definitely died on her terms. Lillian left to cherish her memory her husband John L. Phillips and her six children: John, Kathleen, Dawn, Heidi, Heather and Christian, along with their combined 12 children, her niece and nephew, as well as some cousins and their families.
