A young man who died like countless others fighting for Great Britain 18 June 2010, 05:26 PM #5 (permalink) R Gannon Forum Ace Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: Adelaide Posts: 1,935 PFFF Checked my log and whilst Lt Martin Sheehan was kia in RE8 D498 with 2Lt McCaig (as per Graeme's post) this and another 13 Sqn loss this date were probably not result of German aircraft. There are two German 'RE8' claims (Js 1 & Js 42) but as I read them, these would appear to reflect RE8 losses by 5 Sqn & 52 Sqn.p 13 Sqn at the time look to have been in support of XVII Corps of British Third Army, which at the time was advancing on front of German 17 Armee and 2 Armee. There is an unspecifed claim by Schaepe of Js 33 vic 6 (no type, time or loc) a 17 Armee unit, but my feeling is that both 13 Sqn machines were downed by ground fire whilst supporting the advance. Cheers Russ. __________________ Our hearts so stout has got us fame For soon 'tis known from where we came Where'er we go they fear the name Of Garryowen in glory.
