This is a photo of California's oldest store in Ventura, Ventura Co., CA, "Chaffee's"(was at one time called the Chaffee, McKeeby & Bonestel Store). Founded 1862 by my gg grandfather, Walter Scott Chaffee. In the early days, there was brick on the outside of the building and this looks like stucco so I am guessing about 1905 or close. The store was on the corner of Palm and Main St. downtown(west end)Ventura. After 1929 the store became the "Ventura Department Store". ... show more
