Colonel James Freiher von Halkett (1822-1870)
Youngest son of General Sir Hugh Halkett and Emily Bland Burgess.
Entered the Scottish Cold Stream Guards, served as Aide-de-Camp to Governor and Commander-in-Chief in India, and Assistant Quatermaster General in Ireland. Served his regiment in the East and was present at the siege of Sevastopol, and the battles of Balaclva and Inkerman at which he was severly wounded. Promoted to Lt. Colonel in 1854 and to full colonel and President of the British Swiss Legion in 1856. James left the army in 1860. He was the recipent of the Knight of Legion of Honor, the Medjidie, and the St. Stanislaus of Russia.
