This is a photo of my great-grandmother, Emily Amanda Hanks Carpenter. Her parents were Enoch and Martha Morris Hanks. She was born in 1862, and died in 1936. She married John Wesley Carpenter. She is pictured in the parlor of the old Carpenter homeplace, which is located in the Pipers Gap area of Carroll County, Virginia. The piano in the background is still there in the old homeplace, which has been renovated in recent years by her granddaughter.
