Infant Ethel Byron Chesterman held by her mother Mary Washington Bolton Chesterman (abt 1855 - abt 1924). Ethel's father was a policeman in Richmond,Virginia, Roscoe Dabney Chesterman (1849 - 1901.) Ethel was the second child born to the Chestermans; her middle name was from her aunt, Ada Byron Bolton who died as a child. Ethel was born in her grandparents'1840s home at 505 West Clay Street in Richmond's Jackson Ward.
