Georgiana Higgins, Betsy Ross of the Capitol
Georgiana Higgins was called the "Betsy Ross of the Capitol" because she was, officially, the Seamstress to the United States Senate. Her job was to keep the flag that flew over the Senate Building (which flew night and day when the Senate was in session) in good shape. An average of 12 flags was used each session. And she did it all by hand!
