Awarded Military Cross in 1943 and KIA in 1st March 1945 Mandalay, Burma (1/15th Punjab Regiment) - buried Taukkyan War Cemetery. My mother was engaged to him at the time of his death - they had met in Cape Town when he stopped off on his way to the war in Burma. In 1945 my mother sailed from Cape Town to Southampton aboard a troop ship to get married and heard of his death when she disembarked.

Ian Alfred NICOLL, Alan's only brother was KIA in Cassina, Italy in 1944 - they had a sister, Margaret NICOLL (she never married and died in 2002).
