Andrew Skidmore, son of Jesse Skidmore and Sarah Boyd of Alexandria, VA enlisted on April 17, 1861 (the day that Virginia succeeded from the Union) in the Mt.Vernon Guards and served as a private in the confederate army. He was killed in the trenches at Yorktown a year later on May 2, 1862 at the age of 35. He may have been buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Richmond, but his name is on the Skidmore stone in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Alexandria.
