William Atkinson Jones was a U.S. Congressman from Virginia from 1891 until his death in 1918. As the head of a committee that oversaw both the Philippines and Puerto Rico, he sponsored the Jones Act which gave ultimate freedom to the Philippines and the Jones-Shafroth Act which gave Puerto RicansAmerican citizenship.
