Willie Belle Bowen McGee (1889 - 1981) was called "Ma Gee" by her grandchildren. She lived a long life in Union Parish Louisiana but just because she stayed in one place doesn't mean that she wasn't adventurous.

In 1935, when divorce was considered scandalous, she divorced husband Dink McGee - and then told the census taker that her husband was dead. She had spunk!

Willie's parents were John Edward Howard Bowen (1855-1926) and Missouri I Carmichael (1855-1936). She had siblings Thomas and James. Willie married Dink Barnet McGee (1887-1957) and they had children Hazel, Hugh, George, and Thelma "Puddin". In the 1940 census, Willie was living in Union LA and said she was a widow. But also in the 1940 census Dink was living in Ouachita LA with Addie McGee and stated she was his wife. Also in the household was Evelyn Parrish, who Dink stated was his step-daughter. Dink was working as a salesman in a "retail furniture store." Records state that Willie and DInk divorced in 1935.

I found that I am related to several famous people including famous singers, business people as well as state and national politicians. Additionally, I am related to famous people of the past including famous scientists and a famous fighter at the battle of the Alamo. The link to famous people runs through my paternal as well as maternal lines. Very exciting.
