Joseph was born on 10 January 1816 in Germany and immigrated from Germany and arrived to the port of New York, 19 August 1845, on the ship Maine, his occupation was listed as tailor.
On 28 January 1852 Joseph sold 5 acres to Henry Haub (Henry is considered the founder of Haubstadt, Indiana).
Joseph married Elizabet Gabel sometime before 1847. They had 6 children together.

Katherine then died 31 January 1937 and John died the following year 2 February 1938.
