This is an Anglicized form of the Old Gaelic "O Siodhachain". The Gaelic prefix "O" indicates "male descendant of", plus the personal byname "Siodhachain", a diminutive of "Siodhach", peaceful or "Siodach", gentle and courteous. Originally belonging to County Clare, this clan moved southwards to occupy Counties Cork, Kerry and Limerick, and it is in these counties that the name is most numerous today. It occupies seventy-fifth place in the list of Ireland's most widespread surname, together with the variant form Sheahan. It is interesting to note that a separate clan called O' Sheehan occupied territory in Ui Maine (mid Galway and South Rosscommon) in medieval times, but the name is rarely found in Connacht today. OBITUARY.
Mrs. W. J. Sheehan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Llewellyn Price,
of Blackheath, died very suddenly last week, in Melbourne,
where she resided with her husband. She had appeared to be
in her usual state of health during the day, but shortly after
entering her room, her friends heard a sound as though someone
had fallen, and on going into the room they found that Mrs. Sheehan
had dropped dead, the cause of death being a sudden failure of the
heart. Deceased, who had only been married about seven months,
was well-known and respected throughout the district and much
sympathy is felt for her family in their sad and sudden bereavement.

I treasure the memory of spending time with my cousin Katherine at her home in Chestnut Hill when I was a student in high school. I took the bus from Wayne, a suburb of Philadelphia, to Boston. Katherine introduced me to Father Park with whom I corresponded for a long time. Sadly, when I moved to London England I lost touch with both. Katherine gave me a piece of jade on an antique chain, I wear it always and think of her each time I look at it. Katherine was so proud of her family and I wish I had the pleasure of meeting them. I was aware of Edward R.F Sheehan who, on a visit to Ireland took the first pictures of my family. Unfortunately, I never had an opportunity to thank him for this great gift he gave to my family. I am honoring his memory by reading his works.
