Ireland - the land and the Irish people

The people of Ireland have always self-identified as Celtic. Thanks to new DNA testing, we now know that the original inhabitants of Ireland were from the Iberian Peninsula and are closely linked to the Basque. Through thousands of years, as it is with all peoples, this heritage has mixed with the Celts and English especially, creating the unique mixture known as the Irish.
