John J Knapich was born in Nanticoke, Luzerne, Pennsylvania to parents Joseph Stanley Knapich (1895-1980) and Mamie M Bedofski (1899-1964). He grew up in Rice, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, USA alongside his siblings Edward Knapich (1919-1919), Joseph Stanley Knapich Jr (1920-1980), Alois Anthony Knapich (1924-2019), Dorothy Marie Knapich Saluta (1926-2004), and Stanley S. Knapich (1932-2018). John later lived in Huntington, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, and on November 18, 1942, he enlisted in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. He was assigned to the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers and was ranked as a Private, Selectee. He officially enlisted on November 25, 1942, and served for over three years. John's service came to an end on March 10, 1946, after serving for three years and three months. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater. After the war, John married Catherine Machak (1925-2007) on May 3, 1947, in Luzerne, Pennsylvania, USA. The couple lived in Shickshinny, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, USA, and had three children together. John worked as a federal mine inspector and later worked for the federal Department of Labor as an assessment specialist.

John Knapich was born on June 6, 1902, and died at age 75 years old in March 1978.
