His mother was Hazel Rich and father was Frederick Leslie Shepherd. His brothers and sisters were Charles (Edith), Carlyle, Mary (Eldon Pugmire), Frederick (Colleen and Joan), and Ina (Kay LeRoi Nelson). He married Genevieve Mitchell who had three lovely daughters: Jane, Betty, and Alycesun from a previous marriage. They had three more children: John David, Leslie, and Frank. John Morgan Shepherd was loved by his Grandpa Rich and it was a big blow to this 11 year old boy when he died as he was his constant companion. He loved the ranch and was quite a daredevil. He played clarinet in the band and was on the football and basketball teams when they went to regionals. He was a hard worker, an excellent provider, and a great father. He and his wife of over 64 years were a good team. They especially enjoyed their cabin in Pine, AZ where they would garden, can, play skipbo, entertain family and friends and sit by a wood fire both in the kitchen and front room and watch TV. They were old fashioned and enjoyed doing things the hard way like cooking on a wood stove and doing the washing with a ringer washer. They did these things together and would sit reminiscing in their old chairs on the front porch as the sun went down. Everyone who came to visit always felt welcome and there was always good things to eat and a place to sleep and interested ears to listen.
