Enlisted at Perth in the 3rd.Div. A.I.F.with the 44th Battalion, B Company, no 355 in January 5th, 1916. He sailed for England on the "Suevic", 5th June 1916.The 44th arrived in France in Nov.1916 after extensive training in England, and occupied the line in front of Armentieres. He took part in many Australian battles including Bullecourt and Messines Ridge. It was on the eventful day, 26th of January 1917 that he was dangerously wounded, and taken to the 8th Casualty Clearing Station, France, where he died the next day. [ref. Note: Bailleul is near the Belgian border, 14.5 km.
