After high school, he served in the peace time U.S.Marine Corps and earned the rank of Private First Class. Curtis died while on active service on November 30th, 1988 at the age of 21.

My brother Petree. After 35 I have now confirmed that you had really passed back in 1988. I always remember you from boot camp at MCRD San Diego and artillery cannoneer school in Ft. Sill. You were one of the recruits who treated me with respect right from the start when other recruits treated me negatively because of my Native American heritage. Rest in peace, brother. Semper Fidelis

* My youngest son is now an active-duty Marine as well... our fellow brother.

JW…. Curtis was our rambunctious brother in our artillery battery… Romeo 5/12 8” Artillery Self Propelled… many of us chat about him often on Facebook and messages amongst us… he has not been forgotten. He rests at the National Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri ( Lil’ boot actually got himself a nice spot in the yard)… I’ve visited him… and one year we coordinated a wreath for him in December… I still remember when his Mom flew out to California for his service at the base chapel… one of our saddest memories… seeing his young Mother in such grief… that’s never been forgotten by most of us….

Hopefully his family knows we have not forgotten him… not gonna happen!

Curtis was an only child and was raised by his mother, Beverly.. He attended Hillcrest High School in Springfield MO. He was very loved and is still remembered by his many friends after over 30 years.
