    James Logan Delk was born to Sherwood Delk and Genetta Jane Cobb, both of Fentress County Tennessee. He was the seventh of nine children. James had four sisters and four brothers. He was educated in the local schools until he developed an interest in the Lords work. James wanted to further pursue his interest in this and decided to extend his education in this 'calling'. More extensive education could be sought elsewhere and was. He did get the education he wanted and even got a bit of an education with a circus that passed through. Being a young man still full of adventure and away from the restrictions of home life, it must have been glorious! Not long after James dabbled in the Circus life, he "buckled down' and started preaching. From researching his life, I have found that being a Reverend was as dangerous, if not more dangerous than Circus performing. His religious passion and desire to spread the word of God took James to many different states in our United States and even other countries. Sadly, being heavily into the civil rights movement and a member of the (COCIG) brought with it unfavorable consequences, however, the Lord was with the Reverend and he persevered. Being a man of the Lord still afforded the Rev. the time and opportunity to run for governor on several occasions. He did have a full life and was interesting to learn about. Rest in Peace Reverend

Jamestown, Tennessee born. Big in Civil Rights. Son of Sherwood Delk and Jane Cobb. 1887-1963. Wives: Sarah Tompkins, Bonnyline Clark and Virdie Lois Brawner.

The Reverend James Logan Delk procure funds from Franklin Delano Roosevelt, for the building of the COGIC, of Memphis TN. He started preaching at a young age, held Revival meetings and traveled extensively until his passing in 1963.
James was married thrice. 1st to Sarah Lee Thompkins, of Armathwaite, TN. 2nd to Bonnyline Clarke (Clark) of Leavenworth, KS. and 3rd, to Verdie Lois Brawner, of Allen County, KY. He had four children that I know of.
The Reverend was my husbands great Uncle. There are many colorful stories that could be told of his life.
