Ernest M Kidd's History: 1903 - 1992

Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

My grandfather was the co-owner of a family owned grocery store chain (Kidd Brothers Groceries) as well as a food distribution center (Laurel Food Distribution) selling to grocery stores and restaurants (like Col. Sanders restaurant before his chicken recipe). He pursued other interests at the same time such as bird dog training and hunting, raising and showing his Tennessee Walking Horses as well as racing Standardbred Trotters on the racing circuit. Some of his bird hunting buddies were Col. Harlan Sanders, U.S. Senator John Sherman Cooper and former Ky Governor - U.S Senator A. B. Chandler and Ky Gov. Louie Nunn. He was very stern in the fact that his children and grandchildren be aware of our family history as well as practice at all times good manners and ethics. He passed from a stroke that he received while having dinner and after having trained some dogs for an hour or two.

My grandfather Kidd's parents were Robert N. and Sarah M. Kidd of East Bernstadt, KY. My great grandfather passed before my birth but I was close to my great grandmother Sarah. She was fond of gardening and attended church regularly before her health prevented her from attending. It was extremely important to her and my grandfather Kidd that all the grandchildren know our family history and roots. Like my grandfather, she disliked people without manners.

Ernest Mount Kidd was my grandfather. He wasn't always big on showing affection but you never had to wonder how much he loved you.

He was a hard worker and believed and instilled in his grandchildren integrity, honesty and hard work. Knowing family history was extremely important to him and he drilled grandchildren about it.

He was married four times. 1) Edna Couch Kidd, mother of his children. 2) Laretta Kidd, married two years 3) Marie Blair Kidd married ten years 4) Ellen Kidd, widowed

Children oldest to youngest:
Henry C. Kidd
Fredrick D. Kidd
Ernest C. Kidd (my father)
Nancy Kidd

**E.M Kidd is not related to a Mary E. Payne (falsely claims to be a first cousin) of London Kentucky. Much of her information is either incorrect or made up by Mrs Payne and a Ronnie McFadden (aka blujay - who is a extremely distant relative through a great, great great uncle) and has no knowledge of this end of my family. The information I obtain came directly from my grandfather Ernest M. Kidd and my great grandmother Sarah Kidd or was written in the Kidd family bible.
