Tabankin was discharged from the military on July 28, 1945, after serving for more than three years. After his discharge, Abraham married Anne Grace Saroff (1922–1993) on June 8, 1987 in NYC. The couple went on to have three children together.

Formally called the National Prohibition Act, the Volstead Act enabled law enforcement agencies to carry out the 18th Amendment.
